Professor Alastair MacLennan, AO

AMS founding member and past president Professor Alastair MacLennan has been recognised in the 2011 Australia Day honours list.

Professor MacLennan has been appointed an Officer (AO) in the General  Division of the Order of Australia.

The citation reads:  “For distinguished service to medicine as a leading researcher and practitioner in the areas of obstetrics and gynaecology and the causes of cerebral palsy, to medical education, and to professional development”.

Professor MacLennan is head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Adelaide.  He is a past President of the Australasian Menopause society and is an honourary life member of both Australasian Menopause Society (AMS) and the International Menopause Society (IMS).

For 10 years Professor MacLennan was Editor in Chief of Maturitas journal of the European Menopause Society, and founding editor-in-chief of  Climacteric,  journal of the IMS.

He was lead investigator of the Women's International Study on Long Duration Oestrogen after Menopause (WISDOM)  trial.
