AMS Active Learning Module

Over the past three years, there has been a strategic move by the AMS to assess the needs of the general practitioners who are members of the society. As part of this process we asked the general practitioner membership at annual general meetings how we could best meet their needs. There were requests for a basic menopause update, focussing on management options to be a regular event attached to the annual scientific meeting as well as requests for a more advanced and in depth learning activity in association with this update. Accordingly, a basic half day management of menopause update was developed and was presented by a group of experts in conjunction with the Congresses held in 2009 and 2010. The evaluation forms and attendance at these events indicated that they were a highly valued addition to the program.

In addition, as part of the strategic rethink, a public relations company was retained to examine the relevance of the AMS to its members, particularly GPs. A survey was taken of both members and non members at the 2009 Congress.  The results indicated a desire for GPs to have more targeted educational activities and opportunities to interact with experts via case studies and up to date comment on new research as well as  more in depth educational opportunities.

The AMS Council has taken these suggestions on board and has developed an active learning module which incorporates the Precongress Update and introduces a case study workshop for ALM participants and links it to an online learning module.

What do you need to do?

To participate you enrol for the Precongress Update and for the ALM (Note: numbers are limited to the first 25 doctors registering for the ALM. The ALM is free to members paid up to December 2011 and $50 for non members.)

You will then be provided with a password so that you can access the online module and complete the predisposing activity (MCQ and readings).

Attend the Precongress Update and workshop (held about 30 mins after the Update) on 9th September 2011.

The online module should then be completed. This includes;

  • Online Case studies.
  • A research activity which asks you to access the research updates posted on the website and comment on studies of interest to you and what you have learned  as a result.
  • Reinforcing activity: Write a summary of five key pieces of information you learned at the Precongress Update and as a consequence of completing the ALM.
