HERS study

The HERS study (Heart and Estrogen/Progestin Replacement Study) is a randomized placebo controlled trial investigating the use of conjugated equine oestrogens and medroxyprogesterone acetate in post menopausal women with established coronary artery disease.  It has provided important information for menopausal women and the health professionals looking after them.  The first report indicated adverse events in the treatment (HRT) arm - mostly due to thrombosis in the first two years of therapy.  The second report reported longer term followup of women who continued in the trial.
